Bernards EASC Manuscript Review Wrap-Up

The EASC Manuscript Review for Brian Bernards, Assistant Professor of East Asian Languages and Cultures, closed to great success last Friday, December 7, 2012 after three hours of intense discussion. The event provided Bernards with feedback on his new book manuscript Writing the South Seas: Postcolonial Literature and the Nanyang Imagination.

Two leading scholars, Laurie J. Sears, Professor of History at the University of Washington, and Lingchei Letty Chen, Associate Professor of Modern Chinese Literature at Washington University in St. Louis, gave thoughtful critiques of Bernards’s new work. Other attendees, including 12 faculty and 5 graduate students from the departments of East Asian Languages and Cultures, Religion, Anthropology, Comparative Literature, East Asian Area Studies, and International Relations, contributed to the discussion with the goal of strengthening Bernard’s final text.
